How to use this tool

  1. Enter paved area, compacted thickness, compacted density, waste allowance.
  2. Select Calculate to view the result.
  3. Check the method and assumptions below before using the result.

The method, explained

Tonnes = area × compacted thickness in metres × density / 1000, with allowance.

A WORKED EXAMPLE

Using paved area = 200 m², compacted thickness = 50 mm, compacted density = 2400 kg/m³, waste allowance = 10 %, the result is 26.4 tonnes. Change these example inputs to match your task; use the method above to check each step.

Understanding your result

Use compacted density for the specified mix. Base course, delivery minimums and site compaction are outside this volume estimate.

What to keep in mind

Use compacted density for the specified mix. Base course, delivery minimums and site compaction are outside this volume estimate. A material-quantity estimate, not a structural design or building-code check. Confirm site measurements, supplier coverage and waste before ordering.

Common questions

How do I use this asphalt tonnage calculator?

Estimate compacted asphalt mass from paved area, thickness and density. Enter paved area in m², compacted thickness in mm, compacted density in kg/m³, waste allowance in %. The starting example is editable; use values for the same system or project.

Which assumptions affect this result?

Use compacted density for the specified mix. Base course, delivery minimums and site compaction are outside this volume estimate.
