Review the method below for assumptions and conventions.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter total joint length, joint width, sealant depth, usable cartridge volume, waste allowance.
  2. Select Calculate to view the result.
  3. Check the method and assumptions below before using the result.

The method, explained

Volume in mL = joint length in metres × width in mm × depth in mm. Divide allowed volume by cartridge volume and round up.

A WORKED EXAMPLE

Using total joint length = 30 m, joint width = 10 mm, sealant depth = 6 mm, usable cartridge volume = 300 mL, waste allowance = 10 %, the result is 7 cartridges. Change these example inputs to match your task; use the method above to check each step.

Understanding your result

Rectangular filled cross-section. Triangular fillets, backer rod shape and material shrinkage require adjusted dimensions.

What to keep in mind

Rectangular filled cross-section. Triangular fillets, backer rod shape and material shrinkage require adjusted dimensions. A material-quantity estimate, not a structural design or building-code check. Confirm site measurements, supplier coverage and waste before ordering.

Common questions

How do I use this sealant cartridge calculator?

Estimate cartridges needed for rectangular joints using joint length and bead cross-section. Enter total joint length in m, joint width in mm, sealant depth in mm, usable cartridge volume in mL, waste allowance in %. The starting example is editable; use values for the same system or project.

Which assumptions affect this result?

Rectangular filled cross-section. Triangular fillets, backer rod shape and material shrinkage require adjusted dimensions.
