How to use File Checksum Calculator
- Choose a supported file using the file picker or drag and drop.
- Set hash algorithm.
- Select Process, review the result, and download it.
Input reference and sample values
Use the units and choices shown for each field. Sample values are provided for practice, not as recommendations.
| Input | Format and units | Sample |
|---|---|---|
| Hash algorithm | Choose SHA-256 / SHA-384 / SHA-512. | SHA-256 |
Check your output before using it
- Compare the entire digest against a trusted reference using the same algorithm.
- Matching hashes verify identical bytes against that reference, not who created the file.
The method, explained
The Web Crypto digest function hashes the exact file bytes. Identical bytes produce the same hexadecimal digest.
Compare the SHA-256 result with a checksum published by a software vendor.
What to keep in mind
Up to 20 MB input in total. ZIP extraction is limited to 100 files and 50 MB expanded data. Encrypted archives, unsafe paths and suspicious expansion ratios are rejected.
Common questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. This tool processes files in your browser. Files are not sent to ClarityKit or an external API. Reset the tool or close the tab to release the working files.
What should I do if processing fails?
Check the supported formats and limits above. Try a smaller, unencrypted file and keep the tab open until the result is ready.
