How to use this tool
- Enter bill before tip, tip percentage, people splitting.
- Select Calculate to view the result.
- Check the method and assumptions below before using the result.
The method, explained
Tip = bill × tip percentage ÷ 100. Amount per person = (bill + tip) ÷ people.
A bill of 100 with a 15% tip totals 115. Split between two people, the amount is 57.50 each.
What to keep in mind
Enter the exact bill amount you intend to tip on. Existing service charges and local tipping customs are not inferred. The split assumes equal shares, and rounding may leave a small remainder.
Common questions
Does the bill include tax?
You choose the base amount. Enter a pre-tax or after-tax bill according to your intended tipping basis.
What if equal shares do not add up after rounding?
Allocate the remaining smallest currency units between the diners so the final payments cover the total.
