How to use this tool

  1. Enter the base length in metres.
  2. Measure height perpendicular to that base, not along a sloping side.
  3. Calculate area in square metres; the result also includes square centimetres.

Input reference and sample values

Use the units and choices shown for each field. Sample values are provided for practice, not as recommendations.

BaseNumeric value. Unit: m. Must be greater than zero.8
HeightNumeric value. Unit: m. Must be greater than zero.5

The method, explained

Area = base × perpendicular height.

A WORKED EXAMPLE

An 8 m base and a perpendicular height of 5 m enclose 40 m², or 400,000 cm². The slanted side length is not required.

What to keep in mind

Use the indicated units consistently. Ideal shapes are assumed; dimensions must describe the same object. Display rounding does not increase measurement precision.

Common questions

Can I enter the slanted side as height?

Only when it is perpendicular to the chosen base. Otherwise measure the perpendicular separation of the parallel sides.

Can this calculate perimeter?

Not from base and height alone. You also need the adjacent side length.
