How to use this tool
- Enter actual product mass, theoretical product mass.
- Select Calculate to view the result.
- Check the method and assumptions below before using the result.
The method, explained
Percent yield = actual yield ÷ theoretical yield × 100. Both yields must refer to the same product and use the same units.
Using actual product mass = 8 g, theoretical product mass = 10 g, the result is 80 %. Change these example inputs to match your task; use the method above to check each step.
Understanding your result
A measured value can exceed the theoretical mass when the sample contains solvent or impurities, or when measurements or assumptions are wrong. It is a reason to review the experiment.
What to keep in mind
Does not determine product purity or calculate theoretical yield from a reaction. Educational calculation only; use validated procedures for laboratory work.
