How to use this converter

  1. Enter value, from, to.
  2. Select Calculate to view the result.
  3. Check the method and assumptions below before using the result.

The method, explained

Convert to the base unit, then divide by the target factor. One g/cm³ equals 1,000 kg/m³. One g/L equals 1 kg/m³.

A WORKED EXAMPLE

1 g/cm³ = 1,000 kg/m³; 1 kg/L = 1 g/cm³.

What to keep in mind

The tool converts a supplied density; it does not look up a material. Density can vary with temperature and pressure.

Common questions

Is density the same as specific gravity?

No. Density has units; specific gravity is a ratio to a reference density.

Can I calculate mass from density?

Yes: mass equals density times volume when both use compatible units.
