The method, explained

Converted volume = input × liters per source unit ÷ liters per target unit. A US liquid gallon is 3.785411784 L; an imperial gallon is 4.54609 L.

A WORKED EXAMPLE

One US liquid gallon equals 3.785411784 liters. One cubic meter equals 1,000 liters.

What to keep in mind

US liquid gallons differ from US dry gallons and imperial gallons. Ounces here are US fluid ounces, a volume measure, not ounces of mass.

Common questions

Why are US and imperial gallons separate?

They have different defined sizes. Select the system used by the original measurement to avoid a substantial error.

Can I convert liters to kilograms?

Not with volume alone. You also need the substance’s density at the relevant conditions.
