The method, explained

Converted value = input × meters per source unit ÷ meters per target unit. One international inch is exactly 0.0254 meters; one foot is 0.3048 meters.

A WORKED EXAMPLE

1 meter is approximately 3.28084 feet. One mile is exactly 1.609344 kilometers.

Understanding your result

Choose the source unit before entering a measurement. Converting units changes the number, not the measured distance. Very small values use scientific notation instead of appearing as zero.

What to keep in mind

Uses international feet and statute miles, not survey feet or nautical miles. Displayed values are rounded; calculations use full precision.

Common questions

Are conversion factors exact?

The metric and international inch/foot definitions used here are exact. A displayed decimal result may be rounded.

Can I enter feet and inches together?

Enter decimal feet instead: 5 feet 6 inches is 5.5 feet.
