How to use this tool
- Enter distance, finish time.
- Select Calculate to view the result.
- Check the method and assumptions below before using the result.
The method, explained
Pace = time in minutes ÷ distance in kilometers. Speed = distance ÷ (minutes ÷ 60).
A WORKED EXAMPLE
A 5 km run in 30 minutes is a 6:00 min/km pace and an average speed of 10 km/h.
What to keep in mind
The result is an average; hills, stops and acceleration are not modeled. Times for 5 km and 10 km assume you maintain the same pace.
Common questions
How do I enter 30 minutes 30 seconds?
Use 30.5 minutes. Convert seconds to a fraction of a minute by dividing by 60.
Is the 10 km time a race prediction?
No. It simply extends the same average pace to 10 km. It does not model fatigue or training.
