Review the method below for assumptions and conventions.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter forward voltage per led, current per string, leds per string, parallel strings.
  2. Select Calculate to view the result.
  3. Check the method and assumptions below before using the result.

The method, explained

Array LED power = forward voltage × LEDs per string × string current × number of parallel strings.

A WORKED EXAMPLE

Using forward voltage per led = 3 V, current per string = 20 mA, leds per string = 3, parallel strings = 4, the result is 0.72 W. Change these example inputs to match your task; use the method above to check each step.

Understanding your result

LED dissipation only. A suitable current regulator and thermal design are still required; driver and resistor losses are excluded.

What to keep in mind

LED dissipation only. A suitable current regulator and thermal design are still required; driver and resistor losses are excluded. Ideal-component calculation for study and estimation. It does not select safe wiring, protective devices or component ratings for an installation.

Common questions

How do I use this led array power calculator?

Estimate ideal LED power and branch current for identical series strings connected in parallel. Enter forward voltage per led in V, current per string in mA, leds per string, parallel strings. The starting example is editable; use values for the same system or project.

Which assumptions affect this result?
