How to use this tool
- Enter price or inclusive total, tax rate, mode.
- Select Calculate to view the result.
- Check the method and assumptions below before using the result.
The method, explained
Add tax: total = price × (1 + rate/100). Remove tax: pre-tax price = inclusive total ÷ (1 + rate/100).
At 10%, a pre-tax price of 100 totals 110. Removing 10% tax from 110 recovers a pre-tax price of 100 and tax of 10.
What to keep in mind
The rate is supplied by you. This does not look up jurisdiction rules, exemptions, multiple tax layers or invoice-specific rounding.
Common questions
Why not subtract 10% from the inclusive total?
The tax percentage applies to the pre-tax base. Dividing by 1.10 reverses a 10% addition correctly.
Can this extract VAT mathematically?
Yes for one supplied percentage, but it does not determine legal VAT treatment or eligibility.
