The method, explained

Volume = 4πr³/3. Surface area = 4πr². Diameter = 2r.

A WORKED EXAMPLE

A radius of 3 gives volume 36π, about 113.10 cubic units, and surface area 36π square units.

What to keep in mind

Assumes a complete sphere. Hollow shells, spherical caps and flattened shapes need different formulas.

Common questions

Can I enter diameter instead?

Divide it by two before entering the radius.

Why do area and volume use different units?

Area measures surface in square units; volume measures enclosed space in cubic units.
