  3. Check the method and assumptions below before using the result.

The method, explained

L/100 km = 100 ÷ km/L. US mpg = 235.214583333… ÷ L/100 km. Imperial mpg uses 282.480936331… instead.

A WORKED EXAMPLE

8 L/100 km equals 12.5 km/L and about 29.40 US mpg.

What to keep in mind

Consumption and distance-per-fuel are reciprocal measures. Zero values are rejected. US and imperial gallons differ; no driving conditions are modeled.

Common questions

Does a higher value mean better efficiency?

For mpg or km/L, yes. For L/100 km, lower values mean less fuel consumed per distance.

Why are imperial mpg values higher?

An imperial gallon contains more fuel than a US liquid gallon, so the same vehicle travels farther per gallon.
