How to use this tool

  1. Enter stock concentration, target concentration, final solution volume.
  2. Select Calculate to view the result.
  3. Check the method and assumptions below before using the result.

The method, explained

Stock volume = target concentration × final volume ÷ stock concentration. Diluent estimate = final volume − stock volume. Prepare to the final volume rather than assuming perfectly additive volumes.

A WORKED EXAMPLE

Using stock concentration = 2 mol/L, target concentration = 0.1 mol/L, final solution volume = 100 mL, the result is 5 mL stock. Change these example inputs to match your task; use the method above to check each step.

Understanding your result

The diluent amount is a volume-difference estimate. Real mixtures may change volume: use a suitable procedure to make the solution up to the stated final volume.

What to keep in mind

Assumes the solute amount is conserved. This is not a chemical-mixing safety guide. Educational calculation only; use validated procedures for laboratory work.
