The method, explained

One byte is eight bits. Decimal kilo, mega and giga prefixes multiply by 1,000, one million and one billion.

A WORKED EXAMPLE

100 Mbit/s equals 12.5 MB/s before network overhead.

What to keep in mind

Decimal prefixes only, not KiB/s or MiB/s. Protocol overhead and real network conditions reduce usable throughput. This is not a speed test.

Common questions

Is Mbps the same as MB/s?

No. Mbps usually means megabits per second; MB/s means megabytes per second, eight times as many bits.

Does this measure my internet speed?

No. It converts the rate you enter and does not send network test traffic.
